Tomorrow, November 21, 2014, will mark the first anniversary of the online poker market in New Jersey. It’s been a bumpy road, to put it mildly, but an ultimately successful one for some operators and their devoted clientele. The second largest operator in the Garden State, WSOP.com is celebrating its first year with the introduction of a weeklong tournament promotion packed with $70,000 worth of guaranteed events, double APPs and a 24hr, 50% discount on tournament fees.
WSOP NJ’s Anniversary Tournament Series
The promotion kicks off on Monday, November 24th, and will continue until Sunday, November 30th. A total of $70,000 in GTD tournaments will take place throughout the week. That includes the standard daily guarantees, plus an additional $44k in celebratory events. One anniversary tournament will take place each day, with low buy-ins ranging from $5 to $100, and prize pools guaranteed to pay $3k to $15k. Double Me Up – 2x APP
Online poker players will also be earning 2x the Action Player Points (APP) for the entire promotional week. The Double Me Up promotion is open to all New Jersey online poker players who opt into the promo by clicking the button on the corresponding pop-up window after logging into the lobby. Double APP will be awarded for all SNG and MTT tournament fees, as well as any cash game session, provided the player spends at least one hour at the tables. It should be noted, however, that WSOP members who’ve previously opted into the ‘Personal Best’ promotion in November will not be eligible to participate in Double Me Up.
50% Discount on Tournament Fees
Finally, for one day only, starting at 9:00am on Tuesday, November 25th, and ending at 9:00am November 26th, the New Jersey online poker room will be offering discounted tournament tickets. Players will receive 50% off the fee for any tournaments they purchase tickets for online during that 24hr period. For example, a $100 tournament with a $91 buy-in and $9 fee would cost $95.50, rather than the full $100.
Caesars’ WSOP.com has been a major competitor in the New Jersey online poker community ever since the market went live a year ago, but has never quite managed to garner more traffic than the top operating network, Party Borgata. At present, WSOP NJ is trailing just behind with 130 players on a 7 day average, as opposed to Party Borgata’s 140 average. Caesars’ rival network will surely be running some celebratory promotions of their own, but it will be interesting to see if WSOP NJ can finally usurp Party Poker and Borgata Poker as the leading online poker network in New Jersey, if only for the last week of November.
